Field efficacy of reduced active ingredient zinc phosphide formulation against rodents

چکیده
A formulation of zinc phosphide with reduced active ingredient (40% concentrate) was evaluated for its rodenticidal activity in wheat, rice and sugarcane crops at farmer fields Punjab, India. Comparison made the existing (80% second generation anticoagulant bromadiolone (0.25% concentrate). Cereal based baits containing different doses new (1.5, 2.0 2.5%) (2%) (0.005%) were applied through burrow baiting where Bandicota bengalensis, Mus booduga, Millardia meltada Tatera indica predominant rodents. The reduction rodent determined on pre- post-treatment bait census. Results revealed that 2% 2.5% formulations are as effective existing/ recommended formulations.

Zinc Phosphide Poisoning
Zinc phosphide has been used widely as a rodenticide. Upon ingestion, it gets converted to phosphine gas in the body, which is subsequently absorbed into the bloodstream through the stomach and the intestines and gets captured by the liver and the lungs. Phosphine gas produces various metabolic and nonmetabolic toxic effects. Clinical symptoms are circulatory collapse, hypotension, shock sympto...

This paper presents a case of poisoning of a male whose death occurred about 3 hours after onset of pain in his abdomen. The autopsy revealed semi-liquid contents in the stomach “with a distinct odour of carbide”. Post-mortem material together with a public prosecutor’s decision (request) for an expert opinion on the presence of carbide (calcium carbide, CaC2) or any other poisons in the stomac...

Zinc Phosphide (Zn3P2) could be the basis for cheap and highly efficient solar cells. Its use in this regard is limited by the difficulty in n-type doping the material. In an effort to understand the mechanism behind this, the energetics and electronic structure of intrinsic point defects in zinc phosphide are studied using generalized Kohn-Sham theory and utilizing the Heyd, Scuseria, and Ernz...
متن کاملIncreasing acceptance and efficacy of zinc phosphide rodenticide baits via modification of the carbohydrate profile
Toxicant coated grain-based baits are widely used to control rodent pests throughout the world, but where alternative food sources are available, bait acceptance and efficacy are often less than optimal. In an attempt to develop baiting strategies to increase bait acceptance and efficacy of zinc phosphide-coated baits, a sugar-enhanced rolled oat based zinc phosphide bait was evaluated. With pr...
